A Neural-network Controller for Scheduling Packet Transmissions in a Crossbar Switch

چکیده
A Hoppeld neural network is presented for scheduling packets in an input-buuered crossbar switch. The controller has a two-dimensional winner-take-all design and is driven by request signals representing the packets stored in the input buuers. Schemes are presented to support multiple priorities of traac by changing the binary request signals to multi-valued signals that vary over a limited range. Simulation results show that the controller provides close-to-ideal through-put for switches as large as 32 32. In addition, by varying the relative strength of request signals, the scheme is shown to be able to control jitter eeectively in a communication network consisting of multiple switches in series.

A programmable optoelectronic neural network packet switch scheduler
A programmable optoelectronic neural network architecture is presented that has been optimized to make routing decisions in both crossbar and banyan packet switch fabrics. Simulation has indicated excellent scalability in this particular application with only a minimal increase in decision time even when problem set size grows by an order of magnitude. Experimental results are presented that de...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Variable Packet Size Buffered Crossbar Switches
The crossbar is very popular for the implementation of switches with a moderate number of ports. Unbuffered crossbars (IQ architecture) require complex switch matrix scheduling algorithms that operate on fixed-size cells. On the other hand, buffered crossbars (CICQ architecture), use small buffers at the crosspoints and provide excellent features; scheduling is simplified and variable-size pack...
متن کامل[Article] Power Control for Crossbar-based Input-Queued Switches
We consider an N×N input-queued switch with a crossbarbased switching fabric implemented on a single chip. The power consumption produced by the crossbar chip and due to the data transfer grows as NR, where R is the maximum bit rate. Thus, at increasing bit rate, power dissipation is becoming more and more challenging, limiting the crossbar scalability for high performance switches. We propose ...

A high-performance variable-length packet scheduling algorithm is proposed for efficiently accommodating IP traffic in inputqueued crossbar switches. It uses a rotating priority(round-robin) arbitration and a masking operation for variable-length packets. This algorithm achieves 100% throughput with a single iteration for uniform IP traffic and performs better packet latency and similar cell la...
متن کاملDesigninga Neuro-Sliding Mode Controller for Networked Control Systems with Packet Dropout
This paper addresses control design in networked control system by considering stochastic packet dropouts in the forward path of the control loop. The packet dropouts are modelled by mutually independent stochastic variables satisfying Bernoulli binary distribution. A sliding mode controller is utilized to overcome the adverse influences of stochastic packet dropouts in networked control system...
